Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Christ Murphy blasted the proposed Senate Republicans' health care bill, calling it "cruel" and "mean" and arguing that it will threaten coverage for some of Connecticut's most vulnerable residents.

They say it's more of a tax break on the wealthy than a health plan. At one point, Murphy even called it "evil."

The two lawmakers met with residents at New Haven City Hall to address the bill, which involves deep cuts in Medicaid and could affect thousands of people in the state.

It also decimates tax credits that help residents buy health care on the exchange.

People with pre-existing conditions could also be affected because it allows insurance companies to offer them less comprehensive policies -- potentially leaving costs of some of their treatments uncovered. 

Five Senate Republicans have already come out against the bill, meaning that it currently does not have enough votes to pass.
