The Bridgeport community is reaching out to help a 32-year-old father facing health problems and possible homelessness.
Jose Ortiz says after years of fighting kidney disease, heart disease and diabetes, he feels as though he has come to the end of his rope.
Ortiz has had six major heart attacks, and says chronic illness is diminishing him in the most literal sense.
"Because of diabetes, I've had my leg amputated, the majority of my fingers amputated," he told News 12.
The house he lives in - which is not subsidized - has been sold and the rent has been raised. Ortiz says he cannot afford the new rent and he could be out on the street within a matter of weeks.
City clerk Lydia Martinez brought together state and local leaders who have promised to try and help the family.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family. People can also call (203) 502-9877 to contribute.
