A Bridgeport family displaced by a fire this week is asking for the public's help to get back on their feet.
The family says they lost everything but the clothes on their back when a fire gutted their house on Donald Court Tuesday afternoon.
They say their insurance is paying for two weeks in a motel, but after that, they will be out on the street.
Magdalena Dutkowska says her parents. who own the home, brought her to the U.S. from Eastern Europe when she was a baby, in search of the American dream.
"They were from Poland and they have basically built up this amazing life for me and my younger sister now. And just to think, everything they have worked so hard for materialwise is gone within a few hours,” says Dutkowska. “It's just so incredibly heart-breaking."
The family says they need everything from furniture to clothing to housing.
