A Bridgeport grandfather was killed while helping to repair a dump truck for a friend, police say.
Ruben Rodriguez, 63, was killed while working on the vehicle outside his Pearl Harbor Street home Thursday around 6 p.m.
Police say Rodriguez was underneath the dump truck when the collar of his shirt jacket became caught in the drive shaft.
A friend who lives across the street was assisting Rodriguez and called 911 when he realized he was injured.
Rodriguez was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Many friends and neighbors stopped by the home to express condolences for Rodriguez.
Rodriguez's family described him as a loving man who would do anything for anyone out of the goodness of his heart. He had been fixing the truck for a friend at no cost.
The family is in the process of making funeral arrangements.
