Another homeowner in Bridgeport is facing eviction Sunday due to an unpaid utility bill.
Charlie Coviello says his home will be auctioned off next Saturday as the result of an $1,800 sewer bill he could not pay on time, and all of his tenants will end up homeless.
As News 12 has reported, a coalition of City Council members says the Water Pollution Control Authority, or WPCA, is not playing fair by tacking on high legal fees and penalties to unpaid bills, which quickly balloon out of control and drive many people literally onto the streets.
The WPCA has come under fire from Sen. Richard Blumenthal for using "heavy-handed tactics that tend to exploit seniors, veterans and minorities."
The WPCA has not responded to News 12 Connecticut's request for a comment, but in the past has defended its debt collection methods as legal and proper.
