The North End Little League is getting new state-of-the-art turf fields to replace the grass fields behind Blackham School.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation approached the city of Bridgeport and said if they contributed some funds, the foundation could build fields across the city.
Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation builds multipurpose parks mainly in urban areas and already completed a field in Black Rock.
The president of North End Little League says the turf fields will help the league save money on maintenance and upkeep, and will allow them to hold more games.
They expect the new fields to be ready for opening day of the league's 61st season on Mother's Day weekend.
The league is holding a registration drive this Saturday.
