Bridgeport man in the hospital after shooting
Bridgeport police say they are looking for the gunman who shot a resident Tuesday night on the city's west side.
Investigators say it happened on Poplar Street, near Maplewood Avenue, sometime after 9 p.m.
They say the victim was walking on the front porch of a house when a man walked up and fired his gun from the sidewalk, leaving the victim with a serious gunshot wound.
Police say the gunman got away on foot.
The intersection was closed off as investigators combed the scene and collected what they describe as "vitally important physical evidence" -- including shell casings.
Police initially thought the wound was life-threatening, but they say the victim stabilized and is recovering at the hospital.
Investigators are in the process of studying surveillance video that shows the shooting. Police say the surveillance video, which they plan to release soon, will be key to their investigation.
Police say it is not clear if the victim and suspect know each other.
The motive of the shooting is still unclear.
