Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi met with City Council members Monday for the first time since allegations of cocaine use surfaced.
Fabrizi is scheduled to make a public statement to city employees at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the City Council chambers, where supporters hope he will specifically address the allegations. Fabrizi was inadvertently named in an FBI report filed by prosecutors last Thursday involving accused drug lord Juan Marrero. Marrero, who is facing drug conspiracy charges, reportedly told investigators Democratic town committee member Shawn Fardy had a videotape of Fabrizi using cocaine. Fardy has been indicted for his role in a cocaine ring.
Many in the City Council feel Fabrizi should resign for the good of the city. U.S. Congressman Chris Shays (R-Bridgeport) says Fabrizi needs to tell the truth about what happened.
