Bridgeport officer found not guilty in assault case
A Bridgeport police officer was found not guilty in a case where three officers were caught on video kicking a suspect.
The jury cleared Officer Clive Higgins of excessive force yesterday in connection with the incident in Beardsley Park in 2011.
Higgins was seen in the video as the last of the three officers to arrive and kick Orlando Lopez-Soto while he was down on the ground.
The other two officers involved in the incident, who have resigned from the department, will face up to a year in prison after opting not to go to trial and pleading guilty.
Court documents say Lopez-Soto filed a lawsuit against the police department that was settled for $198,000.
