Bridgeport police officers are under fire this evening after waking up residents whose cars they thought were parked illegally. Police sounded their sirens at 4:30 a.m. along Cleveland Avenue. Officers announced that all vehicles on the street had to be moved for a paving project, but nearby signs only prohibited parking on Aug. 27 and 28. Chief Joseph Gaudett says his force misunderstood the dates and should not have woken up neighbors in the middle of the night.
