(06/07/06) BRIDGEPORT ? Police in Bridgeport say DNA evidence has given them the break they needed to catch a notorious serial killer.
According to investigators, Bridgeport?s ?East Side Serial Killer? has been identified through DNA as 40-year-old Emanuel Webb of Georgia. Police have charged Webb, who is serving time in a Georgia prison, with the 1993 murder of Elizabeth Gandy. Gandy was found strangled in a vacant building on Bridgeport?s East Side. Investigators say DNA also links Webb to the murders of Minnie Sutton, Sharon Cunningham and Sheila Etheridge.
In all, police believe Webb may be responsible for up to 10 murders. Detectives say they were shocked at Webb?s cold demeanor during interviews. According to interrogators, the suspect was very cool and calculated when asked about the murders. Bridgeport police are asking anyone who recognizes Webb?s picture to contact them at (203) 576-7611 or (203) 576-7707.
