Bridgeport police are stepping up patrols in the city’s North End in response to an uptick in violent crime.
Bridgeport City Councilwoman Jeanette Herron met with Police Chief AJ Perez on Friday about stepping up patrols following several incidents in the area.
Herron tells police that the rash of crime began earlier this summer, when an employee at Chaves Bakery fought off four men who tried to rob the business.
There have been several armed street robberies over the past month. Officials say a resident was robbed at gunpoint of a scooter and cellphone Thursday night. Both items were later recovered.
Perez says that in the bakery and the Bronx Avenue cases, police responded quickly and arrested the suspects. He says the department is acting quickly to solve each case and is stepping up patrols as a precaution.
Police say they've doubled patrols on Madison and Capitol avenues.
