Bridgeport police: Murder suspect on the run for 6 months
Bridgeport police are asking for the public's help in finding a murder suspect who they say has been on the run for nearly six months.
According to police, 34-year-old Douglas Rivas fatally shot 36-year-old Cristobal Hernandez once in the chest following a fight inside El Paraiso Mexican Restaurant in the city's North End. It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 25.
Authorities say a fight broke out in the restaurant, and customers were throwing bottles and furniture at each other when the fatal shot rang out. Residents say the venue is popular with people from Mexico and El Salvador, especially on Sunday nights when it features karaoke.
A judge signed an arrest warrant for Rivas five days after the shooting.
Police ask anyone with information to call their tip line at 203-576-TIPS.
