Bridgeport police say they are investigating an officer's apparent suicide Monday morning at Seaside Park.
Police Chief AJ Perez confirmed the death but would not release the name of the officer until next of kin are notified. Perez did say the veteran officer had a history of disciplinary actions with the department.
Police say the officer was found in his car with a single gunshot wound to the head. Perez says he was one of the officers who responded to a child's birthday party in late October, when residents claimed officers used force against adults who police say were unruly at the party.
Perez says the officer was also involved in a serious confrontation with a fellow officer at the department and had been suspended.
News 12 is told that 20 police cars arrived at the scene Monday morning. Perez says he and others in the department were too emotional to talk about what happened.
