Bridgeport police say they are looking for ways to make streets safer in the Park City after a recent spike in crashes involving pedestrians.
Police Chief AJ Perez says a fatal hit-and-run that occurred last week on the corner of Washington and Pequonnock streets is the latest in a string of incidents.
Perez says that there have been 12 vehicular homicides this year, but he says there are many more cases where people get hit and luckily survive.
"It's alarming, it's very alarming that this is going on," he says. "And we can't let it continue. We have to put the brakes on it."
He says he plans to meet with City Council this week to discuss solutions and find ways to make streets safer for both drivers and pedestrians.
Perez also says he plans to step up enforcement of traffic laws in the city.
