Bridgeport police say they arrested the wrong suspect in connection to last month's shooting of a 3-year-old girl. Authorities say Anthony Small, 20, was walking near Bryant Elementary School back on April 30 when shots were fired in his direction. They say the girl was hit in the buttocks and that Small, after being struck in the hand, allegedly fired back at his attackers. He was taken into custody and has been charged with carrying an unlicensed handgun, reckless endangerment and putting a minor at risk. A woman who identified herself as Small's sister says he should be treated as a victim, not a perpetrator. Authorities say Small still put a child at risk by operating an unlicensed handgun.
Family members say the girl has been released from the hospital and is recovering. Police are still searching for other suspects in the case.
