Bridgeport residents protested the shift change of a decorated police lieutenant, claiming the move was a demotion. Lt. David Daniels is being moved to the overnight shift after 20 years on the job, prompting supporters to gather outside the offices of former state Sen. Ernie Newton.
Bridgeport police told News 12 Connecticut in a statement that officers are assigned according to department needs and that Daniels serves at the pleasure of the police chief.
Daniels says he starts the overnight shift on Monday.
