A Bridgeport woman tells News 12 she is frustrated after allegedly getting cheated by a used car dealer.
Certified nursing assistant Robin Rawls says when her car broke down and needed to be replaced, she went to a Bridgeport dealer she thought she could trust.
"He says, 'I got something for you, I am going to give you a deal on this car because I just got it, it's perfect,'" Rawls says.
The CNA bought the 2013 Nissan Sentra, which had almost 100,000 miles on it, for $9,000.
Shortly after Rawls' purchase, the transmission went and she realized she had been sold a junk car.
Rawls says the dealer refused to give her a bill of sale, leaving her no way to recoup her loss.
"I believe firmly, OK, you're going to get away with this here, but at some point, all of us are going to have to answer for what we do wrong to people," Rawls says. "And it made me angry."
Sen. Richard Blumenthal is now calling on the used car dealer to make things right for Rawls, who he describes as a hero for her work during the pandemic.
“He should be embarrassed. He should come forward with some kind of assistance,” he said.
Blumenthal also says he plans to report the dealer to state Attorney General William Tong.
