A broken elevator at a Bridgeport apartment building Friday left seniors and disabled tenants stranded.
News 12 Connecticut first reported about a broken elevator at 810 Atlantic St. in 2019. It's not working again, two years later.
Tenants say the elevator has been broken for months. They say with the one elevator out of service some tenants have no way to go grocery shopping or get to medical appointments.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says it's not the first elevator outage he's investigated at the location.
"Broken elevators are not just a nuisance; they are a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and we are going to be demanding the elevator be fixed as quickly as possible," says Blumenthal.
Gloria Livingston, 69, tells News 12 it's a chronic problem and she is running out of patience.
"Well, for me it's hard because I have two total knee replacements so it's hard coming up and down the stairs," says Livingston.
News 12 reached out to the property manager for comment but has not heard back.
The Bridgeport Health Department says it's investigating the outage.
