One Bronx resident has been busy spreading beauty throughout his home of more than 40 years.
Hector Lopez, 59, decided to become the Adams Houses' resident groundskeeper seven years ago. Since then, Lopez has been tending to plant life in the community garden and making sure the grounds are kempt.
He also installed bird houses in the trees, which has attracted various birds.
"I think it's beautiful," said Stacy Martinez, an Adams Houses resident. "The neighborhood used to look really dead and just terrible, but now it's just nice. The plants are growing. It's fantastic. I think it's gorgeous."
"It's actually a big compliment that I hear often," Lopez said. "They wish that this program was actually expanded to other locations of New York City housing."
Lopez has done this all with his own money, but is in the process of scheduling a meeting with NYCHA to gain more funds for the upkeep of the Adam Houses' community garden.
