A Norwalk businessman says he's helping put a new roof on the home of a veteran with cancer.

Scott Teed, of Landmark Exteriors, heard about 69-year-old Richard Hada's plight in a News 12 Connecticut story last month and says he decided to get involved.

At the time, Hada had a blue tarp covering his home to keep the rain out. Hada, an Army veteran, says he's been dealing with holes in the roof since Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Repairs would have cost around $20,000, and Hada says he couldn't afford that. He says his wife is disabled and confined to the second floor of their home. He was worried the roof might collapse on her when it begins snowing this winter.

Landmark Exteriors began work on the roof Thursday at Hada's Poe Court home in Fairfield. The company expects to finish work in a few days.
