New England's first therapeutic summer camp is back open for kids who really depend on it.
Camp Hope at the Lakewood Outdoor YMCA Center in Monroe is changing the lives of young people facing serious trauma. It is run by the Center for Family Justice in Bridgeport and was able to continue this year despite COVID-19.
Kids from all over Bridgeport look forward to this camp every year. They are victims of sexual and domestic violence. The camp helps them to build trust where trust has been broken.
"It makes me feel good to know that if I at least helped one kid today, you know, then I've done a great job," said Sasha Collins. "And just to know that we have about 22 kids with me here today just shows that there's 22 kids that have more hope simply by coming to our camp."
The camp runs this week and is made possible by donors.
