A Bridgeport city councilwoman is attempting to get a disabled woman into a new apartment after several delays from the neighborhood housing authority.

Councilwoman Eneida Martinez-Walker says 62-year-old Jill Whitley can no longer climb the stairs to her second-floor apartment. Martinez-Walker says the delays from Park City Communities, a federally funded housing authority, are in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Whitley, a cancer patient, told News 12 that the housing authority was supposed to move her three weeks ago. Martinez-Walker says she has been attempting to move Whitley for the past two years.

Federal housing officials have not responded to News 12's request for comment. Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he will ask federal housing officials to speed up the process.
