The car tax will not be eliminated as part of the new state budget.
The tax is one of the most hated fees in Connecticut.
Scrapping the tax was initially part of the budget deal, but after towns and cities pushed back, state lawmakers abandoned the idea.
Top leaders announced early this morning they have a final agreement in place between Democrats and Republicans.
They hope to vote on it Wednesday afternoon after showing it to Gov. Dannel Malloy.
