A cat found injured and abandoned last month in a carrier at a Darien rest stop on I-95 is getting the help it needs to make a recovery.
New Canaan Animal Control assisted state police when the cat, aptly named Highway, was found and took it to a veterinarian. It was then determined Highway suffered two broken legs and trauma to its right eye.
PAWS, a Norwalk-based shelter that rescues and re-homes animals, has since stepped in to offer medical assistance.
"Despite the suspected abuse 'Highway' remains a sweet and trusting animal," according to New Canaan Animal Control.
Highway's eye will be removed Wednesday. People at PAWS say that will make him more comfortable and will not hurt his chances of being adopted.
Anyone interested in aiding Highway’s road to recovery can reach out to PAWS at 203-750-9572.
