The Center for Family Justice is honoring domestic violence victims with a monthlong campaign starting with a vigil for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The vigil was held at Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater Wednesday.
The center is also kicking off a monthlong awareness campaign called #Hairdos4Hope with local salons.
Supporters are encouraged to go to participating salons to get a purple streak in their hair or donate to The Center for Family Justice during the month of October and then upload a nine-second video using the hashtag #Hairdos4Hope and #9SecondsOfHope.
The purpose is to encourage others to do the same. The significance of the nine-second video is to bring attention to the fact that a woman is assaulted or beaten every nine seconds in the U.S.
The Center for Family Justice says the six towns it serves in Fairfield County are coming together to remember the 32 lives lost to domestic violence this year.
The vigil aims to inspire action to put an end to domestic violence.
