A man from Wilton was sentenced Friday for a 2012 domestic dispute in which he threatened to shoot his wife.
Charles Garcia, 48, was sentenced Friday afternoon to three years for first-degree assault.
Police say Garcia pulled out a hunting rifle during the fight with his wife. Police say he threatened to kill her when she struggled to take the gun away from him. The gun then went off, hitting Garcia in the jaw. The gunfire residue caused permanent damage to his wife's eyes.
Garcia apologized during his sentencing, but the judge told him his action could not go unpunished.
The prosecutor said Friday that Garcia's wife Michelle has moved out of state since the incident and wants nothing to do with him.
