The New York City Council has passed a bill to keep voters informed and to limit confusion during elections.
Councilman James Vacca says the bill puts a text and email system in place to give voters details about upcoming elections and polling locations.
The idea for this goes back to the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy when polling places were changed, leaving many confused.
Most recently, some Bronx residents told News 12 they were left scrambling from one location to another to try and cast their votes in the New York primary on April 19.
"People walked to their normal, regular polling place and they were told 'You're not voting here anymore' - that's not something that we want to have happen again," says Vacca.
Vacca says registered voters will be contacted to provide an email address or cellphone number, if they have not already done so.
