Well-known civil rights attorney Ben Crump is joining the NAACP and the state's ACLU in denouncing the treatment of a man who died in Stamford police custody.
Steven Barrier died while in the custody of police on Oct. 22, his birthday.
A letter says police treated Barrier with "callous disregard" instead of providing him with needed medical attention. They're asking the Stamford Board of Representatives to call an emergency meeting to address the practices of the city's police department.
They also want the police chief to discipline the officers if they are found to have violated department policy.
