Students at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield attended their first day of classes Monday after one of their classmates was killed in a car accident last week.
Kaitlyn Doorhy, 20, was hit by a car Friday afternoon as she crossed Madison Avenue in Bridgeport. She died from her injuries.
Doorhy was walking to campus to help the freshman class move into their dorm rooms.
Students and faculty alike say it has been a very difficult start to the school year.
The president and dean of students at SHU say Doorhy was a beautiful, vibrant girl who loved fashion.
The president says an email was sent out campus-wide that included tips to cross the street. More crossing signs have also been put up around the campus.
News 12 is told Doorhy's funeral is set for Friday in her hometown of Mattituck, New York.
