A Stamford community group is seeking to change the way people celebrate Columbus Day by moving the focus to Italian culture.

Instead of a parade, the Columbus Day Italian Street Festival took place Sunday, complete with food, fun and music despite rainy conditions.

News 12 Connecticut joined two participants as they put together a homemade recipes for the festivities.

Organizers say they hope that the street festival will grow in years to come.
