A Bridgeport police commissioner Friday called for the formation of a special task force to end the exploitation of undocumented workers by contractors.
Commissioner Simon Castillo says undocumented workers in Bridgeport are being cheated out of millions of dollars every year.
Two men who say they are undocumented immigrants and day laborers told News 12 they have been cheated out of large sums of money from employers who know they are afraid to file a complaint for fear of being deported.
City Councilwoman Lydia Martinez says undocumented workers should call the Connecticut Department of Labor if they do not get paid for work they have done.
Authorities say undocumented workers will not be punished for reporting an employer who may have broken the law.
