Community shows outpouring of support for longtime day care owner
A Fairfield woman known for running a day care is in the fight of her life, and those close to her are trying to help.
Deanna Herlihy, known to many as "Miss Dee," opened her day care Curiosity Corner 19 years ago, but was forced to close it March 1.
Herlihy was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer last summer, on her 60th birthday. Her sister says the cancer has now spread throughout her bones and body. Despite the tough prognosis, her family has hope.
"(An) outpouring of love and support from the community and the people around from 19, 16 years ago kids are coming and writing my sister notes and giving donations. They’ve been very, very lovely," says Debra Cingari, Deanna's sister.
Deanna Herlihy's husband has been injured for a long period of time, and now both are unable to work. There is a GoFundMe page for her that has already raised over $13,000.
