(AP) - The Connecticut Senate has approved aDemocratic budget that Gov. M. Jodi Rell is expected to veto onceit reaches her desk.
The House of Representatives, also controlled by Democrats, isexpected to approve it on Friday.
The bill, which passed on a 19-16 vote, covers $35.7 billion inspending over two years, but does not include transportationfunding, which will supposedly be voted on in the coming days. Theoverall budget package is expected to be more than $37 billion.
Republicans say the bill makes the mistake of raising taxes oncorporations and higher-income earners and imposing a temporary 30percent surcharge on estates of people who die in 2009, 2010 and2011 during a difficult recession.
Democrats say the bill covers key programs for citizens andattempts to begin streamlining state government.
