Connecticut residents hit Main Street for Small Business Saturday
Black Friday may belong to the big box stores, but smaller shops across Western Connecticut had their moment in the spotlight during Small Business Saturday.
News 12 Connecticut was in Greenwich where customers were in and out of stores in the downtown area.
Sophia's Costume and Gift Shop in Greenwich offered 15 percent off on all Christmas merchandise in the store.
The owner of the store, Sophia Scarpelli, says local businesses often offer something new for customers.
"I think when they come to a small store they see a different kind of thing then they would see online," Scarpelli says. "You can come here and find a fantastic gift from 10 bucks to 80 bucks."
Officials in Greenwich say that small businesses across the country are responsible for 63 percent of the jobs created in the past 20 years.
