Education officials across Connecticut are working to provide food to kids who rely on school for at least one meal a day while schools are closed.

In Fairfield, breakfast is available from 8 a.m. through 9 a.m. and lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. through 1 p.m. in cafeterias at Roger Ludlowe Middle School and McKinley Elementary School.

Stamford public schools are providing free grab-and-go meals from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at all schools, as well as several community sites. That includes places like the Yerwood Center and Chester Addison Community Center.

Norwalk public schools are keeping the buses going even though school is closed. They're using them to deliver breakfast and lunch to students at their bus stops.

Buses arrive two hours after the normally scheduled time with a food service worker on board who passes out the meals to parents or students. 

Lorette Spaulding is a local food service worker who will now be passing out food from the bus.

"Some kids don't eat at home so they look forward to eating in school - breakfast and lunch," said Spaulding.

Norwalk is also doing food pickup outside schools from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. every day.

Norwalk's chief communications officer says 57% of Norwalk students qualify for free or reduced meals.

Trumbull public schools announced pickup of free lunch curbside at Trumbull High School will start Tuesday. It will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. weekdays until schools are back in session.
