The Connecticut Supreme Court today reaffirmed a previous ruling that said the state's repeal of the death penalty in 2012 must also apply to the 11 men sentenced to death before the law was passed.

The ruling stems from the case of Russell Peeler Jr., of Bridgeport, who was sentenced to death for ordering the murders of a young boy scheduled to testify against him in a murder case, as well as that boy's mother.

All 11 remaining death sentences will now be changed to life in prison without the chance for parole.
