A planned vote on bringing highway tolls back to Connecticut will not happen today after all.
Democrats announced they are pulling today's vote amid reports there aren't enough votes to pass it.
The plan would start the process of adding tolls to I-95, I-84, I-91 and the Merritt Parkway. In-state drivers would get up to a 50 percent discount.
But Democratic leaders conceded they still don't have the votes.
State House Speaker Rep. Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin) says he will still try to get a vote by next Wednesday, when lawmakers wrap up their session for the year.
"Look, I'm willing to put my election on the line over tolls because I genuinely believe it's the right thing,” said Aresimowicz.  "I am going to work as hard as I can over the next few days, until we adjourn session, to try to come up with a plan to get tolls on the board."
