Connecticut's attorney general is suing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for failing to do enough to warn consumers about the dangers of the drug OxyContin.

Richard Blumenthal says a four-year investigation by his office shows Stamford-based Purdue Pharma downplayed the addictive qualities of OxyContin. Blumenthal wants the FDA to put stronger warnings about addiction on the painkiller's packaging.

"We are suing the FDA because it has ignored four years of warnings and even three criminal convictions within Purdue Pharma and instead has failed to take action," says Blumenthal.

Purdue Pharma officials say OxyContin already posts a warning about the dangers of abusing the drug.
