Construction began Wednesday for a new senior housing development site in Darien.
The groundbreaking happened at the Residence at Selleck's Woods on Parkland Drive.
Officials say the new site will create 102 independent assisted living apartments. They say the units will feature concierge services and residents will have access to the Selleck Woods Nature Preserve.
The property's management company says the units will allow people to continue living active lives.
"They can stay here and age in place, but also be out in the community that they know and love and not have to worry about maintenance of a yard or food or any of those things," says Executive Director Barbara Davis. "They can travel, they come and go and just shut their door. The greatest thing is that they are going to have socialization."
Officials say the construction is expected to be completed by November.
The residence will open in December.
