Bridgeport police say a construction worker died after being shot Thursday morning.
The shooting happened at Pond Street and Chopsey Hill Road at around 9 a.m. Officials say Gregory Weathers, 33, shot Jose Araujo, 30, of Milford.
Police say Weathers approached Araujo and asked for work. They say Araujo referred him to Burns Construction's administrative offices in Stratford. Officers say Weathers then returned a few minutes later and opened fire on Araujo, who was working in a ravine at the time.
Araujo was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say they arrested Weathers after a short foot chase. They also executed a search warrant at Weathers' home on Saunders Avenue.
Bridgeport Police Chief Joe Gaudett held a news conference Thursday afternoon, where he announced that the suspect confessed to the crime shortly after he was arrested.
The incident marks the second murder in Bridgeport in two days. Police say they do not believe there is any connection between the two.
Weathers is being held on $1 million bond.
