A Fairfield teen is facing charges Monday after police say he abandoned the children he was supposed to be babysitting.

According to police, a couple left their 6- and 7-year-old kids with the sitter, Mark Hoeplinger, Saturday night. Authorities say Hoeplinger left the home at around 8 p.m. to go out. When the children woke up and realized no one was there, police say they went to a neighbor's house. Police say Hoeplinger claims he was told by the parents that he could leave after putting the children to bed.

Hoeplinger was released on $5,000 bond. He is due back in court later this month.
