CT Democrats vow to work with Trump administration
Connecticut Democrats pledged Wednesday to keep an open mind and work with the new Donald Trump administration.
Connecticut's Congressional delegation, which is all Democrats, says they are reeling from the stunning Republican sweep.
Connecticut's senators and Congressional representatives say they will work with President-elect Trump, but at this point, there are many unknowns about how much of his agenda he will actually roll out, how fast and how forcefully.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he will hold hearings on any Supreme Court nominees President-Elect Donald Trump sends to Congress. All year, Republicans have refused to consider President Barack Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court.
"We need to fill vacancies on the Supreme Court and do our constitutional duty," says Sen. Blumenthal.
Sen. Chris Murphy says that he is encouraged that Trump says he wants to spend money on infrastructure needs.
"If President Trump wants to spend money on helping to rebuild Connecticut's roads and bridges and rail lines, then sign me up," says Sen. Chris Murphy.
Coming off his own election win Tuesday night, Rep. Jim Himes told News 12 Connecticut Democrats must work with the new president.
"An awful lot of Americans stood up for a guy who is quite clearly unqualified to be president, and they didn't do that because they're bad people," says Congressman Himes. "They did that because they are pretty angry at the system, because they have a lot of anxiety. We've got to listen to that anger and anxiety."
Both of Connecticut's senators say that America needs to come together.
However, they also say they are not afraid to stand up to Donald Trump on issues like gun control and gay rights.
