Fire officials across southwestern Connecticut are on alert tonight for brush fires after high winds knocked down tree limbs and power lines over the weekend. Officials with the National Weather Service say the gusty and dry conditions have prompted them to a issue a red-flag warning. Winds knocked out power in Stamford and Bridgeport, as well as in parts of New Jersey. Fire officials say all state burning permits have been suspended for today and recommend safeguarding homes.
