The Connecticut Supreme Court today ruled to overturn the state's takeover of the Bridgeport school system. Last summer, the state had dissolved Bridgeport's Board of Education and appointed a new one. Several former board members immediately filed a lawsuit, which ultimately led to today's decision. The court ruled that the state failed to train the original elected Board of Education properly. State officials say the goal was to get the district's finances in order and they note that the new board had nearly balanced the budget. Not all former board members will return because some of their terms have expired. Officials say there will soon be a special election to fill the vacant spots on the board.
