The man arrested for allegedly trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman pleaded not guilty Friday.

Sources say the alleged suspect, 57-year-old Joe Halderman, is a CBS employee who lives on Renzulli Road in Norwalk. CBS says Halderman is an Emmy-winning producer for the program "48 Hours."

On Thursday night's "Late Show," Letterman told his audience about the ordeal, saying it started three weeks ago when he received a letter and evidence of his office affairs. Letterman went on to admit to his viewers that he did in fact have sexual relationships with female employees. He told his audience that he had to testify before a grand jury Thursday.

Neighbors who know Halderman say he is very kind and social. Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff told News 12 Connecticut that he worked with Halderman at CBS years ago and that he was a very professional person.
