Hundreds of Connecticut residents showed their appreciation for veterans at the 14th annual Salute to Veterans event in Greenwich Saturday.
Spectators watched as veterans unfurled a 1,500-foot American flag. They also sang patriotic songs and saw Navy Seals demonstrate their skills. Twin brothers Robert and Kenneth Neilsen of Greenwich both served in the Navy during Vietnam and were on hand to see the outpouring of support from fellow Connecticut residents.
Many in attendance say they participated to show vets, like the Neilsens, that they understand the sacrifice military men and women make in the name of freedom.
