Connecticut's Senate has voted in favor of repealing the death penalty.
The bill passed 20-16 last night. It now moves onto the House.
The bill would make life in prison the maximum punishment for all future cases.
However, the legislation would not affect the 11 inmates currently on death row.
If passed, Gov. Dannel Malloy has said he would sign the legislation into law.
