(AP) - Connecticut residents will be getting a literal shot in the arm from some federal stimulus funds.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell says the state has been awarded $2.5 million in stimulus money for its child immunization program. She says the state plans to use the funds to buy enough Rotavirus vaccine to inoculate 13,000 children.

Rotavirus can lead to severe diarrhea and dehydration in infants and young children.

The state is advising doctors and other immunization providers that they can begin ordering the two-dose Rotavirus vaccine for all patients between the ages of 6 weeks and 8 months.

The stimulus funds will enable the state to purchase 26,000 doses.
