Connecticut lawmakers met in Hartford Friday to discuss plans for the newly passed transportation legislation.The two-year, $3.5 billion transportation package was passed last year. The Transportation Strategy Board has created a designation plan after evaluating Connecticut?s biggest transportation needs. Board members have approved $1 billion for more than 340 new Metro-North rail cars. They also plan on installing tolls on state highways and improving the infrastructure around I-95 and Route 7.Although the package includes all aspects of transportation, discussions at the meeting, held at the Legislative Office Building, were centered around the Metro-North Railroad. The new rail cars are expected to be running by 2009. As a whole, lawmakers say they are proud that progress is being made instead of studied.
